Leo's and Ellen's Desert Estates Pale in Comparison to Casa Bella in Rancho Mirage
Leonardo DiCaprio and Ellen Degeneres have nothing on their neighbors who move into this most luxurious of Palm Springs area mansions. This amazing Mediterranean, known as Casa Bella in Rancho Mirage, is outrageous by Beverly Hills standards. Offered at $16,995 million, it stands out as one of the most exquisite and expensive single family residences ever built in the area.
The indoor living space totals nearly 15,300 sq.ft., and the entire property includes approximately 1.3 acres of lushly landscaped grounds, which is quite the feat in the desert. The estate was developed in 2012 by Al Durrett and designed by world-renowned architect Juan Carlos Ochoa, who made each room unique with its own special design and custom details. But almost all rooms do have one thing in common: walls of French doors and windows that open to seamlessly integrate interior and exterior spaces.
Let’s go on a tour:
Enter the grounds through double gates, to arrive at the motorcourt with a center fountain.
Grand glass and iron front doors lead into the formal foyer and beyond to the living room, with a giant stone fireplace and full bar.
To the right and left are additional public rooms which include an amazing rotunda dining room with a wood-paneled and hand-painted domed ceiling;
a spacious library with a fireplace;
an extensive game room with a bar;
an ornate movie theater unlike anything you’ve ever seen in a private home;
a wine cellar and wine room;
a fabulous, gourmet kitchen complete with professional appliances and a breakfast room;
plus adjoining interior and exterior family rooms with fireplaces.
Of course the master bedroom suite is almost like a separate residence, with its living room with a fireplace and separate sitting room, also with a fireplace. You need a lot of fireplaces in the desert, because it gets so cold at night.
The master suite also has an office, huge his and hers walk-in closets, and his and her bathrooms.
Hers has yet another fireplace and a fancy tub,
and his has an elaborately tiled shower and a barber chair, because who wants to waste their time in a barbershop?
Additional bedrooms include two guest bedroom suites with a shared living room in the main house, and a two en-suite bedroom guest house with private living room with (another) fireplace, dining area, and a full kitchen.
In case the new resident wants to conduct official business on the premises (Rancho Mirage is at least two hours from Los Angeles, doncha know?) There is a huge office spanning an entire upper level, with a balcony overlooking the property, a conference area, living room, powder room and (of course) another fireplace.
Now outside there are multiple spacious loggias; an outdoor gourmet kitchen with a barbeque,
fireplace and fire pit;
a free-form blue mosaic tile pool; walkways and bridges crossing water features;
an amphitheater with generous seating for large events; and an elaborate, 9-hole putting green.
There’s also a 5-car garage and an elevator in the main house.
I’m thinking it’s the perfect residence to host major golf tournament parties, or soirees for the Palm Springs Film Festival. Whomever ends up with it shouldn’t be surprised if their famous neighbors come by to borrow a cup of sugar, because even the biggest and brightest stars in Hollywood can’t help but gawk over the jaw dropping Casa Bella in Rancho Mirage.
